Turkey poultry market cartel investigation
Overview
Turkish authorities are investigating a suspected poultry cartel following a significant surge in chicken prices, which rose between 150% and 250% since the start of 2026.
In mid-June, officials detained 29 executives and high-ranking employees from 13 companies that control roughly 80% of the domestic market. The suspects face charges including price fixing, disrupting the free market, and operating a criminal organization to secure illegal profits. Regulators allege that executives used secret meetings and encrypted applications to coordinate supply reductions, delay discounts, and exchange pricing information.
While the government previously restricted poultry exports to increase domestic supply, prices did not stabilize. Although a court had initially imposed mandatory administration on 13 companies, it lifted that measure for 11 of them in mid-June due to concerns regarding production stability. The investigation is ongoing.
