Turkey regional and international energy cooperation

Overview

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar has initiated several diplomatic efforts to expand Turkey’s energy infrastructure and integration.

In Riyadh, Bayraktar proposed a regional electrical interconnection project to link the power grids of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Syria. He also expressed interest in expanding oil and gas cooperation with Iraq and discussed energy and mining opportunities with officials from Libya and Uzbekistan.

Expanding the scope to international partnerships, Bayraktar met with Japanese and European Union representatives. He emphasized the Turkey-Japan partnership as a model for managing supply chain disruptions and engaged with EU ambassadors to discuss renewable energy, natural gas, and nuclear energy. A key objective of these discussions is to increase Turkey’s electricity and natural gas transmission capacity to serve as a reliable supply route for the European market.
