Turkey tax inspection and revenue trends
Overview
The Tax Inspection Board (VDK) reported a significant increase in identified tax base differences during the first half of the year, totaling 354.2 billion lira. This represents an approximately 57 percent increase compared to the 225.5 billion lira recorded during the same period the previous year.
Tax inspections accounted for 265.2 billion lira of this difference, a 96.65 percent year-over-year increase. During this period, inspectors examined 33,455 taxpayers and prepared 101,301 reports, with proposed taxes and penalties exceeding 186.6 billion lira.
Furthermore, the board utilized an ‘invitation to explanation’ mechanism to allow taxpayers to clarify risky issues prior to direct inspections. This process led to a 35.4 billion lira increase in tax bases, with the actual increased tax amount rising 10.41 percent from the previous year to reach 3.05 billion lira.
