Turkey unemployment decline 2026
Entities: Cevdet Yılmaz · Vedat Işıkhan · Turkey
Overview
In early July 2026 the Turkish government reported that the usage of its unemployment insurance fund had risen to cover half of eligible workers, reflecting a policy push to strengthen safety‑net support.
By the end of the month, official labour statistics showed the unemployment rate falling to 7.6% in June, the lowest level recorded since monthly data began in 2005. The drop marked the 38th consecutive month the rate stayed in single‑digit territory. Youth unemployment fell to 12.8% and female unemployment to 9.8%, while total employment rose by 227,000 people, lifting the employment rate to 48.9%. Officials attributed the improvements to ongoing reforms, credit programmes and targeted support for young people, women and labour‑intensive sectors.
