Turkic cultural and academic symposiums in Baku

Overview

In September 2026, Baku hosted a series of events commemorating the centenary of the First Turkology Congress and fostering academic and cultural cooperation among Turkic nations.

The 14th International Altai Communities Symposium took place from September 9 to 12, bringing together academics from countries including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Hungary, Japan, and China. The symposium featured 121 presentations covering linguistics, history, archaeology, and other disciplines to strengthen scientific networks and academic collaboration.

Following this, the I Turkic World Composers Congress was scheduled for September 18–20 as part of the XVIII Uzeyir Hajibeyli International Music Festival. This event aimed to establish the Turkic Union of Composers (TUC) through the signing of the Baku Declaration. The congress sought to strengthen professional ties between musical institutions, preserve musical heritage, and promote Turkic music internationally.
