Turkish Grain Board agricultural commodity management

The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has implemented several initiatives to manage agricultural supplies and market stability. In late October, the agency announced plans to supply 5.5 million tons of grain in November to ensure food price stability and supply security. This includes offering 1 million tons of low-quality wheat to the feed industry, featuring flexible payment options to mitigate logistical difficulties in the Black Sea.

By early November, the TMO reported the acquisition of approximately 190,000 tons of shelled hazelnuts, representing about one-third of the national harvest. Officials anticipate total acquisitions could exceed 240,000 tons by the end of the season.

During the hazelnut procurement process, the TMO identified irregularities involving the misuse of Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) documents. The agency reported that certain merchants and grocers allegedly attempted to pass off purchased hazelnuts as their own by using producers' documents. In response, the TMO is initiating legal and administrative proceedings for qualified fraud and forgery, while also imposing a two-year ban on producers found to have permitted the irregular use of their documentation.
