Honey production in various Turkish highland regions has faced significant challenges during the 2026 season due to adverse weather conditions. In the Anzer Ballıköy Plateau of Rize, the 2026-2027 Anzer honey harvest has concluded. Officials reported a decrease in yield and production attributed to cold weather in the highlands. Current prices for ‘Zirve Balı’ are 8,000 TL per kilogram, while brands such as Fırtına Vadisi, Hala Deresi, and Kestane Balı are priced at 5,000 TL per kilogram. Traditional ‘karakovan’ honey production has also been limited by seasonal weather. In Gümüşhane, beekeepers and local associations report that honey yields have dropped by 40% to 50% due to irregular rainfall and climate conditions. In certain specific areas, production losses have been reported as high as 90% or 100%. Migratory beekeepers noted the impact on the harvest, which typically involves moving hives to Antalya for wintering in October. In addition to honey, producers are focusing on the promotion of pollen, propolis, and royal jelly.
