Turkish maritime law enforcement operations

Overview

Turkish maritime authorities have conducted operations to intercept illegal vessels and fugitives. In early September, the Turkish Coast Guard arrested a Northern Cyprus citizen, identified as S. A., in the Demre district of Antalya. The arrest followed a surveillance operation that began in June, during which authorities monitored a speedboat suspected of involvement in migrant smuggling.

In a separate operation in Muğla, authorities intercepted the vessel ‘PETER PAN 1’ off the coast of Datça. The operation, a joint effort by the Coast Guard and Provincial Police, resulted in the apprehension of nine suspects identified as members of the FETÖ organization attempting to flee the country illegally. Law enforcement seized various forms of currency and counterfeit Belgian identities during the interception.
