Turkish presidential economic and urban policy meetings
Overview
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has held high-level meetings at the Presidential Complex to address economic and urban development issues in Turkey.
Initial discussions focused on the industrial and economic agenda of Ankara, involving local governors and representatives from the Ankara Chamber of Industry and the Ankara Chamber of Commerce. Subsequent cabinet meetings expanded the scope to national legislative and safety concerns, including a nine-item proposal to the Turkish Grand National Assembly regarding the liquidation of investment funds and the provision of interim payments to affected investors.
Regarding the investment fund investigation, President Erdoğan reported that legal action has been taken against 282 individuals, including fund company board members. This has resulted in 84 arrests, 27 arrest warrants, and 99 judicial control measures. Furthermore, the assets of 254 individuals involved in the investigation have been frozen or seized. Pending legislative approval, the government intends to begin principal payments of up to 1 million lira to investors in October, aiming to conduct liquidations transparently without using public resources. Approximately 355,000 affected individuals have already begun receiving certain payments.
To support employment, Erdoğan announced expansions to the İŞKUR Youth Program for the 2026-2027 period, increasing the quota to 150,000 participants. Students in the program may receive daily payments of 1,375 lira, with potential monthly support reaching 19,250 lira.
Regarding urban safety, the President issued an urgent call for transformation in Istanbul. He confirmed that the ‘Yarısı Bizden’ campaign, providing grants and loans for earthquake-resistant housing, has been extended until December 31, 2027, while criticizing political opposition for delaying structural changes.
