Turkish sports infrastructure expansion

Turkey continues to expand its sports infrastructure through diverse municipal and national investments. In Kayseri, construction is nearing completion on a 17,500-square-meter international athletics track at the Erciyes High Altitude Camp Center. Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç stated the facility is designed to meet all athletics disciplines, complementing existing UEFA-standard pitches and Olympic facilities.

In Trabzon, officials at the Turkey Olympic Preparation Center are evaluating investments to support the city’s 83,000 licensed athletes. These initiatives focus on expanding youth centers, increasing ‘Young Office’ projects for university students, and continuing talent identification programs.

New large-scale projects have emerged in Erzurum, where excavation has begun for a sports campus. Tendered by TOKİ with a value of 5.8 billion TL, the campus will feature a new stadium, a 5,000-capacity sports hall, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. In Kocaeli, construction of Kocaelispor’s new facilities in Körfez Sevindikli has reached 50% completion, encompassing a 74,500-square-meter site with hybrid and natural grass pitches.

Additional municipal efforts include Manisa Büyükşehir Belediyesi preparing a tender for an 8-story youth center, and İzmir expanding its free outdoor fitness programs through ‘Sports Stations’ and ‘Gym Containers’ in coastal areas. Earlier developments in Kartepe also continue to provide modern athletic spaces through new artificial turf pitches in the Emekevler and Uzunçiftlik neighborhoods.
