TV2 premiere of Keselyű thriller miniseries

Overview

The Hungarian television station TV2 has launched its four-part thriller miniseries ‘Keselyű’, which premiered on October 17. Based on the novel by Zoltán Nagy, the story follows Zalán Szigethy, a successful morning radio host portrayed by Zsolt Dér, whose life is disrupted by a serial killer.

The perpetrator communicates through live radio broadcasts by reciting classical Hungarian poetry. While the original novel utilized the works of Mihály Babits, the television adaptation expands this to include poems by various prominent figures, such as Attila József, Miklós Radnóti, Endre Ady, Mihály Vörösmarty, Dezső Kosztolányi, and János Arany.

Production details indicate the series features a ‘Scandinavian-style atmosphere’. Showrunner Péter Pierre Hermann noted that the protagonist was intentionally modeled after radio personality Balázs Sebestyén to enhance realism. While the creative goal was to produce a high-quality thriller of international standard, some critics have suggested the setting occasionally feels like a ‘Northern noir story transplanted into Budapest’.
