Typhoon Infa approach toward Japan
Overview
Typhoon 31, also known as Infa, has been tracking west-northwest near the Marshall Islands while maintaining very strong intensity. Initial reports indicated a central pressure of 970hPa and maximum wind speeds of 40m/s, with projections suggesting the storm could strengthen to a central pressure of 940hPa as it approaches the Ogasawara Islands.
By late October, the typhoon was reported to be moving slowly or remaining nearly stationary with a central pressure of 960hPa and wind speeds of 45m/s. Forecasts indicate a westward trajectory, with the system expected to pass near Minamitorishima, the Mariana Islands, and eventually the Ogasawara Islands. Meteorologists warn that even if the typhoon transitions into an extratropical cyclone or is influenced by westerlies to move away from Japan, it remains a dangerous system capable of producing high waves and heavy rainfall.
