The Joint Typhoon Warning Center began monitoring tropical disturbance 91W southwest of Guam, noting favorable conditions for development into Typhoon Surigae. Initial forecasts suggested the system might move northwest toward the waters between Taiwan and Okinawa, with potential paths leading toward eastern China, Japan, or the Korean Peninsula. By September 23, the system, designated as Tropical Depression TD29, was expected to intensify into Typhoon Surigae as early as September 24. Meteorological models indicated divergent trajectories: one scenario involves the storm turning north early, while another suggests a westward path that could impact Taiwan around September 29. While some models predict As of September 25, Typhoon Surigae is expected to turn north and move toward the northeast, posing “no direct threat to Taiwan.” Forecasts indicate the typhoon will pass east move away from the island, with the probability of Taiwan toward impact being zero. Separately, weather authorities noted that while conditions remain stable through next Wednesday, an intensifying northeast monsoon starting around September 28. October 1 may bring rain to northern and eastern regions. Additionally, annual high tides may cause seawater incursion in low-lying coastal areas from New Taipei to Changhua and in Penghu.
