On September 25, 2026, the Central Bank of Ireland issued a commemorative 2-euro coin to mark the 50th anniversary of U2. Designed by Shaughn McGrath, the coin features the faces of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. During the presentation at the Little Museum of Dublin, Deputy Governor Vasileios Madouros stated that the coin honors the band’s legacy, noting that U2 represents “Irish creativity and talent.” To celebrate, the band performed a series of surprise concerts in Dublin on September 26. This included a performance at Mount Temple Comprehensive School, where the members first met in ~~1976, and an impromptu concert on the balcony of Bewley’s Oriental Café on Grafton Street, which~~ 1976 following a handwritten recruitment notice posted by Mullen. During the festivities, the band paid tribute to the late Irish musician Glen Hansard, whom Bono described as the “king of street musicians.” These anniversary events also served as a platform to announce their 16th studio album, ‘Carnaval De Luz’, scheduled for release on November 13.
