UAE bilateral cooperation in energy and technology

The United Arab Emirates is expanding its strategic and economic partnerships across the Caucasus and Balkans through cooperation in technology, renewable energy, and infrastructure.

In Albania, bilateral relations have strengthened significantly, with non-oil trade increasing by 129.4 percent in 2024. During a meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Albanian President Bajram Begaj discussed expanding cooperation in trade, food security, and infrastructure. A key development includes an agreement between Masdar and Albania’s KESH to explore a joint venture for large-scale renewable projects, such as solar photovoltaics. In recognition of his role in advancing these relations, President Begaj awarded Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed the Grand Star of the Supreme Order of the Eagle.

Simultaneously, Azerbaijan and the UAE have formalized several strategic agreements following a meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan. These include renewable energy projects between Masdar and Azerbaijan Green Energy LLC, and a strategic cooperation agreement between Azerbaijan Investment Holding and L’IMAD Holding Company PJSC. Additionally, AzerGold and Terra Mining Ltd will jointly assess and explore mineral resources in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Technological ties are being bolstered through a partnership between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy and Group 42 Holding Ltd to develop data centers, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
