UAE digital identity blockchain integration
Overview
The United Arab Emirates is upgrading its national digital identity platform, UAE PASS, by migrating its ‘Digital Vault’ infrastructure to a dedicated Avalanche L1 blockchain. Announced by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), the project involves partnerships with consultancy firm Deca4 and Ava Labs to ensure operational sovereignty and processing stability for over 12.5 million users and 350 institutions.
The integration utilizes a dedicated blockchain to facilitate faster and more secure document verification. This allows users to securely store, request, and share verified government documents, such as trade licenses or academic certificates, by using blockchain records to confirm authenticity without placing personal data directly on the chain. Ava Labs has characterized the integration as ‘one of the largest real-world, nation-state use cases for public blockchain infrastructure to date.’
