UAE transport infrastructure expansion

Overview

The United Arab Emirates is expanding its transport infrastructure through significant developments in both aviation and rail.

In the aviation sector, Etihad Airways is increasing its connectivity. The airline announced a new year-round service between Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Airport beginning in October 2026, intended to support emerging tourism projects. Additionally, Etihad will increase its Abu Dhabi to Sydney service to two daily flights starting in December 2026. These increased services, scheduled to begin on December 15, 2026, will utilize Airbus A350-1000 aircraft to provide greater flexibility for travelers heading to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

On the ground, Etihad Rail has reached a major milestone with the official launch of passenger services connecting Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Fujairah. Following an inauguration by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the network began offering scheduled trips on September 30, 2026. The journey between Dubai and Abu Dhabi takes approximately one hour and four minutes, with ticket pricing starting at AED 39 for Comfort Class and AED 109 for Premium Class.

The Al Yalayis Station in Dubai facilitates transfers to the Dubai Metro Red Line via a dedicated pedestrian bridge. This infrastructure is designed to support future urban growth and integrate seamlessly with existing transit networks.
