Overview
Ubisoft has begun testing a new integration called ‘Ubisoft Connect Services’ to eliminate the requirement for the standalone Ubisoft Connect launcher when playing titles through Steam. This initiative aims to provide a more seamless experience by allowing Steam to handle game launches directly while essential ecosystem features—such as cross-progression, cross-play, player security, and rewards—run as a background service.
The testing phase has officially launched with ‘Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’. While the move addresses community criticism regarding the friction caused by mandatory secondary launchers, it remains unclear if linking a Ubisoft account to a Steam account will continue to be a requirement for all future titles.
