Uganda revenue mobilization and anti-corruption efforts
Overview
The Ugandan government is pursuing strategies to increase domestic revenue and improve institutional accountability. Finance Minister Henry Musasizi has directed newly recruited Uganda Revenue Authority staff to prioritize professionalism as the state seeks to raise the national tax-to-GDP ratio from approximately 14 percent to at least 20 percent.
In tandem with revenue mobilization, the Uganda Local Government Workers’ Union has advocated for systemic anti-corruption reforms. The union has called for increased funding for accountability institutions, such as the Auditor General and the Inspectorate of Government, while emphasizing the need for due process to protect civil servants from unfair victimization during investigations.
