UK aviation sector funding programmes

On 29 July 2026 the UK government announced a new round of the Reach for the Sky Challenge Fund, allocating £750,000 to organisations that provide outreach, mentoring and career‑event programmes for young people from disadvantaged and under‑represented backgrounds. The fund, now in its fifth year, builds on four years of investment that reached more than one million youths and supported 46 charities and schools to promote careers as pilots, engineers, air traffic controllers and other aviation roles.

The following day, 30 July 2026, the government unveiled a £7.3 million investment to accelerate sustainable aviation technologies. The money will support eight British companies developing electric and hydrogen‑powered aircraft, including projects by BETA Technologies and Vertical Aerospace, and will contribute to a broader £43 million package for low‑carbon propulsion, sustainable fuels and airport infrastructure for eVTOL aircraft. Together, the two announcements illustrate a dual‑track strategy: expanding the skilled aviation workforce while advancing low‑carbon flight technologies.
