UK commercial vehicle sector investment

Overview

The United Kingdom’s commercial vehicle sector has seen £1.1 billion in private investment since 2021. According to analysis by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), this funding supports the production and development of over 30 models and conversions, specifically focusing on low-emission, electric, and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

This investment covers manufacturing, research and development, and supply chain operations for buses, trucks, and vans. The sector involves international businesses from more than 20 countries, including China, India, Japan, and the US. SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes stated that the transition to zero-emission road transport is generating new opportunities in advanced technologies and engineering. The UK currently serves as Europe’s largest market for zero-emission buses and its second-largest market for heavy goods vehicles and vans.
