The Heritage Open Days festival, a nationwide celebration of history and culture in the United Kingdom, is scheduled to run from September 11 to 20. In Hampshire, English Heritage is participating under the theme ‘Everyday Histories’, which focuses on local community stories. Scheduled activities include a multi-period re-enactment weekend at Fort Brockhurst on September 12 and 13, featuring period camps and weapon displays. Other Hampshire events include walking tours of 18 sites within the medieval walls of Southampton and a tour of the Silchester Roman Fort. On the Isle of Wight, the Heritage Service is providing free entry to the Museum of Island History and the Newport Roman Villa. The museum will host an immersive theatre walk centered on the poet Charlotte Mew on September 12, while the Newport Roman Villa will be open to the public on September 19.
