UK Land Rover theft gang sentencing

Overview

Four men have been sentenced at Hereford Crown Court following a large-scale vehicle theft operation across England and Wales. Between September 2024 and May 2025, the gang stole approximately 33 to 34 Land Rover Defenders, with a total value exceeding £600,000.

The thefts occurred across multiple jurisdictions, including Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Powys, Sussex, Avon & Somerset, and Devon & Cornwall. The group utilized a workshop in Bristol, owned by Benjamin Hobbs, which functioned as a ‘chop shop’ for dealing in stolen parts.

Following the investigation known as Operation Liondale, which was led by West Mercia Police, the defendants received a combined total of more than 15 years in prison. The specific sentences were: Leonard Hodgkins (four years and nine months), Benjamin Hobbs (four years and four months), Jimmy Butler (three years and eight months), and David Hodgkins (three years).
