UK police enforcement against dangerous motorway driving
Overview
UK police have conducted several enforcement actions against dangerous driving involving high-performance vehicles on major motorways.
In late July, Essex Police seized 13 supercars, including Lamborghinis, a Ferrari, and a Porsche, on the M11 motorway following reports of anti-social driving. Witnesses reported the convoy used the hard shoulder and disrupted traffic flow. Sergeant Will Willsher noted the behavior “potentially placed other road users at serious risk”.
By late August, similar enforcement occurred on the M4 and M5 motorways, where the Avon and Somerset Roads Policing Unit seized supercars from Audi, Lamborghini, and Mercedes-Benz brands. These vehicles were part of a wedding convoy observed driving dangerously. Additionally, Lancashire Police reported an incident on the M6 involving drivers traveling the wrong way up a slip road, describing the behavior as ‘absolutely unacceptable’.
