The extreme heatwave and drought that began in late July 2026 have caused severe agricultural damage across the UK and Europe. Producers are also forced to adjust management strategies. To mitigate risks from hard ground and uneven emergence, growers are delaying the drilling of oilseed rape or considering splitting acreage with winter linseed. Silage production is also under pressure; farmers must choose between waiting for more bulk or cutting early to preserve digestibility in drought-stressed grass, particularly for priority livestock like milking cows.
