Ukraine Flamingo missile program

Ukraine has begun fielding the indigenously developed FP‑5 Flamingo, a hybrid cruise‑missile‑drone system with a reported range of up to 5,000 km and a warhead exceeding one metric ton. The first publicly documented use occurred on the night of 26‑27 June 2026, when five missiles were launched at the Titan‑Barrikady weapons‑research complex in Volgograd, damaging facilities that support Russia’s Iskander‑M and RS‑24 Yars programmes.

In the weeks that followed, production of the Flamingo was scaled up by the Ukrainian defence startup Fire Point. By late July 2026 the company was assembling roughly 100 missiles per month at a unit cost of under $600,000, far cheaper than comparable Western systems. Fire Point also supplied long‑range drones (FP‑1, FP‑2) for strikes on Russian oil refineries, cutting output by about 20 %.

Daily strike campaigns using the Flamingo and associated drones expanded to five‑to‑fifteen attacks per day, including hits on a Russian components factory in Cheboksary, 960 km from Kharkiv. Production facilities now span 83 sites in Ukraine and one in Denmark, employing around 6,000 people. The programme reflects Ukraine’s effort to achieve strategic autonomy for deep‑strike capabilities without reliance on foreign missile supplies.
