Ukraine-Russia aerial and military conflict

Overview

Aerial combat and strikes between Ukraine and Russia have involved both defensive interceptions and offensive targeting of military assets.

Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted a Russian ‘Banderol’ cruise missile using a modernized MiG-29MU1 fighter jet. Due to the depletion of advanced R-73 missile stocks, the Ukrainian Air Force has utilized older Soviet-era R-60 air-to-air missiles, which have undergone modernization to improve infrared seeker sensitivity.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian strikes have targeted Russian aviation and logistics. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed the destruction of a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet near the Millerovo airfield and a Ka-27 helicopter near the Yeysk airfield. Additional strikes were reported against an ammunition depot in Volodymyrivka, a warehouse in Ocheretyne, and military equipment in the Bryansk region of Russia.
