Ukraine-Russia peace negotiations and battlefield disputes
Overview
Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration, has denied Russian claims that the city of Dobropillia in the Donetsk region has fallen to Russian forces. Following an announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 16 regarding control of the city, Budanov asserted that the settlement remains under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Budanov accused Colonel General Andrey Ivanayev, commander of the Russian ‘Center’ military grouping, of providing false information to the Russian president and pressuring subordinates to manufacture a military result to validate prior reports. Budanov emphasized that all parties must base decisions on the actual situation on the battlefield rather than misleading information.
Diplomatic efforts to achieve peace are currently underway in Oslo. These negotiations involve Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, leaders from Norway and Finland, and American envoy Steve Witkoff. Following these consultations, Witkoff is expected to travel to Russia to continue discussions regarding the cessation of the conflict.
