UNED hospital efficiency studies in Madrid

Overview

The National University of Distance Education (UNED) released the fourth edition of its Hospital Efficiency Quadrant study to evaluate performance within the Madrid Health Service (Sermas).

Initial findings focused on eight high-complexity reference centers, measuring economic and clinical performance. The Fundación Jiménez Díaz, which utilizes a mixed management model, was named the most efficient hospital in Madrid for the fourth consecutive year with a score of 1.71.

Subsequent details of the study revealed an expanded scope that included medium and low-complexity hospitals. The analysis utilized three indicators: resource management efficiency, healthcare efficiency, and technical efficiency. The results indicated that public hospitals employing private management models led the rankings.

In the medium-complexity category, Rey Juan Carlos University Hospital led in healthcare efficiency, while General de Villalba hospital achieved the highest resource management efficiency. In the low-complexity category, Hospital Infanta Elena was identified as the leader.
