Unidentified unmanned vehicles found on Turkish coasts

Overview

In early August 2026, a suspicious object resembling a military-grade unmanned sea vehicle washed ashore at Karasu Beach in Sakarya Province, Turkey. While technical examinations confirmed the craft contained no explosives or active warheads, the Turkish Coast Guard’s Submarine Defense (SAS) unit and local police secured the area for forensic analysis.

Following this incident, a suspected unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was discovered by pedestrians on Yeniköy beach in the Arnavutköy district of Istanbul. The Coast Guard Command and gendarmerie secured the site and removed the device for technical analysis. Preliminary assessments by authorities suggest the object may be related to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, though the exact origin and identity of the UAV remain unconfirmed.
