Unidos de Vila Isabel 2027 Carnival preparations

The samba school Unidos de Vila Isabel has finalized its musical direction for the 2027 Carnival following internal controversy. The school leadership initially planned to merge compositions by Martinho da Vila and Paulo César Feital, but reversed this decision to use only the samba composed by Martinho da Vila, Evandro Bocão, and André Diniz. This reversal occurred after the school’s 88-year-old honorary president, Martinho da Vila, refused to sign the merged piece due to disagreements over musical styles. The decision led to internal friction, including the departure of three composers who described the move as a “humiliation”.

Following the selection of the samba, the school has commenced singing rehearsals at its quadra on Boulevard 28 de Setembro. These sessions aim to refine the interpretation of the samba-enredo and strengthen community participation. The theme for the 2027 parade, titled ‘Torto Arado – Sobre a terra há de viver sempre o mais forte’, is inspired by the novel by Itamar Vieira Junior.
