United Arab Emirates bilateral trade agreements

Overview

The United Arab Emirates has entered into new Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPA) with different nations to expand bilateral trade and investment.

In late October 2026, Benin and the UAE signed a CEPA aimed at reducing or eliminating customs duties on various goods, including agricultural, manufactured, and energy products. The agreement targets key sectors such as agro-industry, renewable energy, telecommunications, fintech, and digital infrastructure.

During the same period, Canada and the UAE signed a CEPA intended to reduce or eliminate duties on more than 99 percent of Canada’s current exports to the UAE. Negotiated in a record 47 days, the agreement was finalized during an official visit to Ottawa where Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

This deal follows a C$70 billion ($50 billion) investment framework announced in November 2025 and is part of a Canadian effort to diversify trade partners. The agreement includes a strategic partnership covering mining, logistics, energy, defense, and advanced technology, with the CEPA expected to enter into force in 2027.
