Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has initiated two distinct reviews addressing security and justice concerns in the United Kingdom. Following an increase in threats and violence against public figures, including the murder of former minister Anne Whitcomb and alleged terrorist plots against Nigel Farage, the Home Office has ordered an urgent security review. This review, overseen by the committee Ravec, aims to expand protection for various political figures, including members of the House of Lords and former MPs, while also addressing the security of the Royal Family. Separately, an independent review led by Alex Chalk KC has been launched into the December 2025 murder of 18-year-old student Henry Nowak in Southampton. The investigation follows public outcry over body-worn video footage showing Mr. Nowak being handcuffed while bleeding from a stab wound, during which an officer reportedly dismissed his claims of injury. The perpetrator, Vickrum Digwa, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years. The review will be conducted in two phases: the phases. The first phase will examine the treatment of the Nowak family by various agencies, agencies and investigate whether public services—including the police, healthcare, local authorities, universities, and religious organizations—missed warning signs regarding Vickrum Digwa in the five years preceding the attack. The second phase will consider the actions of the police and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) once their investigation into the scene response is complete. An initial report is expected within five months.
