Universitario de Deportes management and recruitment

Overview

Universitario de Deportes has focused on institutional and squad strengthening efforts. The club administration, led by Franco Velazco, initially sought an experienced international sports director to improve management ahead of the 2027 squad assembly.

As the 2026 Liga 1 season approached its conclusion, the club shifted focus toward player recruitment. Efforts included negotiating the return of Ecuadorian defender José Carabalí and pursuing midfielder Carlos Gruezo to meet the tactical requirements of coach Fabián Bustos.
