University of Crete medical infrastructure expansion

Overview

The University of Crete has expanded its medical and healthcare infrastructure through new educational and clinical initiatives.

Initially, the university launched a Simulation and Clinical Skills Center within its Medical School. This facility was established to provide a modern environment for medical students to enhance their training and practical clinical skills.

Following this, the university announced the establishment of two Special Regional Clinics at its Heraklion and Rethymno campuses. These clinics are intended to improve primary healthcare access for students, faculty, and staff. The Heraklion clinic will operate as a decentralized unit of the Agia Varvara Health Center, while the Rethymno clinic will serve as a decentralized unit of the Spili Health Center. This expansion is the result of cooperation between the university, the 7th Health Region of Crete, and several Greek ministries.
