Overview

The University of Molise hosted an international conference titled ‘Transhumance and Pastoralism: Biocultural Heritage and Ecosystemic Services’. Held as part of the initiatives for the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026, the event addressed the connection between extensive pastoralism, rural development, and the preservation of internal regions.

Regional authorities in Molise supported dialogue between research institutions and the pastoral sector. Furthermore, the Superintendent for Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape for Molise highlighted the necessity of protecting ‘tratturi’ (sheep tracks) infrastructure to preserve cultural heritage from improper land use.
