University of Seville financial and employment management

The University of Seville is undergoing structural and financial adjustments to address a budgetary deficit. As part of its 2026-2027 Economic-Financial Plan, the university’s Social Council approved transferring 9.6 million euros from investment funds to personnel expenses, bringing total reinforcement for personnel costs to over 15 million euros. The institution aims to achieve approximately 16 million euros in savings by the end of 2026 through strategic fund collection and organizational efficiency.

In conjunction with these measures, the university approved a Public Employment Offer for 2026, consisting of 533 positions: 282 for teaching and research staff and 251 for technical, management, and administrative services.

Simultaneously, the CSIF union has filed a complaint with the Seville Prosecutor's Office. The union is seeking an investigation into the management of university funds, alleging that a deficit originating under former rector Miguel Ángel Castro has resulted in unpaid staff supplements. The union is demanding accountability from current leadership to clarify the crisis and establish a payment schedule for outstanding debts to workers.
