University of Victoria academic rankings
Overview
The University of Victoria (UVic) has been ranked as the second-best mid-sized university in Canada in Maclean’s magazine’s 2027 annual rankings. This category includes institutions with 10,000 to 30,000 full-time students. UVic placed second in this group, trailing only Simon Fraser University.
The evaluation utilized four primary criteria: student resources and support (32%), student experience and success (28%), faculty quality (25%), and reputation (15%). Within its peer group, UVic achieved first place in Canada for research impact and secured second place for medical-science grants, scholarships, and bursaries.
Lisa Kalynchuk, UVic’s vice-president of research and innovation, stated that the results reflect the “strength of the university’s research community.” Additionally, acting president Robina Thomas noted how the university’s Pacific Northwest setting influences its identity and opportunities.
