Meram Municipality in Konya has launched an extensive urban green space initiative for 2026. The program involves the construction of 20 new parks and green areas, totaling 74,640 square meters across various neighborhoods. Key projects include Havzan Park, Alakova 15480 Sokak Park, and Çaybaşı Mahallesi Sefine Sokak Park. These developments are designed to provide social and sporting amenities, such as playgrounds, fitness equipment, basketball courts, walking paths, and cafes. Furthermore, the municipality is renovating 25 existing parks in neighborhoods including Alavardı, Aymanas, Bahçeşehir, Kozağaç, Uluırmak, Yaylapınar, and Yenişehir to improve safety, comfort, and modernity. Progress continues on Havzan Park, a 15,000-square-meter social and green space situated at the intersection of Gazze, Şehir, and Eski Yol streets. The project aims to transform an underutilized area into a modern living space featuring a 600-meter walking track, basketball and table tennis courts, fitness areas, and parking facilities. A coffee-concept venue, ‘Haki Kafe’, will also be part of the site. To establish a forest-like environment, 830 trees and over 2,000 shrubs and plants have already been planted. Mayor Mustafa Kavuş stated that the project is intended to complement the Konya Metropolitan Municipality’s upcoming large-scale park project in the nearby ‘Ağır Bakım’ area, which is expected to feature large ponds and dining facilities.
