Urban redevelopment projects in Palermo
Overview
Palermo is undergoing various urban redevelopment and infrastructure projects. The City Council approved a 1.6 million euro initiative to transform the former Remo Sandron Gasometer industrial site into the Mezzogiorno Innovation Center (MIC). This project, funded by private partners including the Ziz – Il Fiore dell’Arte Association, Tmp Group, and Amg Energia, will feature co-working spaces, multimedia facilities, and a public garden.
Separately, the redevelopment of Porticciolo della Bandita in the Costa Sud area has progressed with the appointment of an examining commission to evaluate design applications. This larger project, valued at approximately 16 million euros and funded by state resources and the Metropolitan City of Palermo, aims to install an Olympic-sized swimming pool, children’s facilities, and new green spaces.
