Between 2019 and 2022, Brazil’s urbanized area grew by 12.27%, adding approximately 5,955 square kilometers to the national urban mesh. This brought the total urbanized area to approximately 48.8 thousand km² in 2022, representing 0.6% of the national territory. While the Amazon Legal region covers nearly 60% of the national territory, it represents only 14.27% of the urbanized area.

Regional disparities remain prominent. The Northeast saw the highest proportional growth, accounting for 30.22% of the country's total horizontal growth. In the Center-West, Goiás holds the largest urbanized area at 2,080.20 km², with Goiânia ranking fifth among Brazilian capitals.
