A Fox News poll released on 22 July 2026 showed broad voter dissatisfaction with the economy and politics, giving Democrats a modest edge in the generic House ballot (53 % to 46 %) and on issues such as income inequality, health‑care and inflation. The poll suggested a competitive midterm environment, with higher Democratic enthusiasm potentially translating into turnout.

By 28 July 2026, newer generic congressional ballot surveys indicated the Republican Party had narrowed the gap. The Economist/YouGov poll placed Republicans at 42‑46 % (down four points), while the Reuters/Ipsos poll showed them at 38‑40 % (down two points). A RealClearPolitics composite still gave Democrats a lead of 48.4 % to 43.2 %, but the spread had remained stable for months. Republicans also highlighted a significant fundraising advantage and announced a midterm political convention to energize their base, underscoring a renewed push to retain House control despite the typical midterm disadvantage for the president’s party.
