Hanwha Defense USA has been selected by the U.S. Army to provide prototype K9 Mobile Howitzers (K9MH) for the Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) program. This initiative seeks to modernize long-range precision fires by introducing a highly mobile, protected 155mm wheeled artillery system to potentially supplement or replace the M777 towed howitzer. The contract involves the delivery of six prototype units, with an option for 12 additional systems. The initial value of the agreement is estimated systems, valued between $100.3 million and $262.9 million. These prototypes, which prototypes utilize an 8x8 wheeled chassis, will undergo four chassis and a fully automated turret designed for rapid “shoot and scoot” maneuvers. To support the program, Hanwha has leased a facility in Opelika, Alabama, for three years of operational to serve as an integration and testing site.
