US government AI procurement modernization

In July 2026 the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced an expansion of its OneGov procurement platform. The agency highlighted an internal automation effort targeting the elimination of roughly 850,000 federal employee hours and projected a total savings of one million hours by the end of the year. Since its 2025 launch, OneGov has generated about $1.18 billion in cost savings, and GSA plans to broaden the platform beyond software to include larger, coordinated engagements with major vendors such as Adobe, Microsoft, Google and OpenAI. The upcoming 2026 FedCiv Summit will discuss AI, cloud, cybersecurity and other modernization initiatives under the expanded OneGov scope.

Later in the same month, other U.S. government agencies reported adopting AI‑enhanced software and leveraging Government Purchase Cards (GPCs) to acquire low‑cost legal‑technology solutions. Euna Solutions promoted AI‑driven tools for contract validation, grant discovery and budget analysis, emphasizing incremental roll‑outs and human oversight. Onit highlighted the use of GPCs and micro‑purchase programs to centralize contract data, automate reminders, and apply AI for metadata extraction and e‑signatures. Both firms described the shift toward faster, AI‑enabled procurement as a strategy to modernize federal, state and local operations despite tight budgets and staffing constraints.
