U.S. maritime and infrastructure funding allocations

Federal maritime and infrastructure funding has been allocated to support shipbuilding and transportation capabilities in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

In August 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration awarded grants to shipyards in Alaska and Washington to modernize equipment and expand capacity. In Alaska, Catalyst Marine Engineering and JAG Alaska received a combined $2.3 million to acquire fabrication, welding, and vessel-moving equipment in preparation for the homeporting of a new Arctic Security Cutter. In Washington, Everett Ship Repair and Rozema’s Boat Works secured $1.3 million for electrical upgrades and metal fabrication equipment.

Concurrently, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities received $410 million in federal funding for the Alaska Marine Highway System. This final installment of a five-year cycle from the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law includes $161.2 million for operations and over $150 million for the design and construction of a replacement LeConte ferry. Other allocations include terminal modernizations and seaport expansions, addressing previous administrative delays that had raised concerns regarding the continuity of ferry services in coastal Alaska.
