US-Russia ISS operational extension

Overview

The United States and Russia have agreed to extend the operations of the International Space Station (ISS) until 2030, adding two years to the previous timeline.

Dmitry Bakanov, Director General of the Russian Space Corporation Roscosmos, confirmed the agreement followed a proposal from the United States. The extension maintains a system established in 2022 where at least one Russian cosmonaut and one American astronaut are present on the station to support operations. Bakanov noted that this cooperation does not affect Russia’s plans to launch the first module of its own independent orbital space station in 2028.
