Annual crime reports for 2025 indicate declining violent crime rates in both Tennessee and Minnesota.
In Tennessee, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported that the murder rate fell by more than 18%, with 484 cases in 2025 compared to 592 in 2024. Aggravated assaults also decreased by more than 15%. Group A offenses, including burglary, theft, and robbery, totaled over 429,000 incidents, with most occurring in homes between 3 p.m. and 5:59 p.m.
In Minnesota, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reported a 14 percent decrease in violent crime in the Twin Cities Metro Area and a 9 percent decrease in greater Minnesota. Statewide murders dropped to 132 in 2025 from 172 in 2024. Additionally, motor vehicle thefts fell by 22.4 percent, carjackings dropped by 31 percent, and larceny incidents reached a 57-year low.
