The United States remains at Level 5 wildfire preparedness as the 2026 season reaches critical levels. The National Interagency Fire Center reports that 45,184 wildfires have occurred this season, burning at least 5.6 million acres nationwide—a total that has already surpassed the previous year’s entire annual count.
