Uttar Pradesh election campaign buildup
Entities: Uttar Pradesh · Prayagraj · Aam Aadmi Party · Ayodhya · Rashtriya Lok Dal
Overview
In mid‑July 2026, the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav announced a statewide Rath Yatra to be launched in September, targeting the Backward, Dalit and minority (PDA) electorate across all 403 Uttar Pradesh assembly constituencies. The rally was framed as a defence of the constitution and a counter to the ruling BJP’s policies.
A week later, other parties intensified their outreach ahead of the 2026 state elections. The Aam Aadmi Party began a 12‑day padyatra from Ayodhya to Prayagraj, emphasizing employment, caste equality and social justice, and promised to present a “People’s Report” in November. Simultaneously, the Rashtriya Lok Dal sought to broaden its presence beyond its traditional western‑Uttar Pradesh base, demanding a larger share of seats in the NDA’s seat‑sharing negotiations for the 2027 elections.
