Political tensions in Uttar Pradesh have escalated as the 2027 Assembly elections approach. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and allies continue to target Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of being ‘arrogant and selfish’ and alleging his administration would return ‘hooliganism’ to the state. Recently, Yadav has challenged the BJP’s claims regarding state investment, arguing that manufacturing growth is merely assembly using foreign components. He also labeled the BJP the “biggest land mafia” regarding expressway land acquisition and has alleged that the ruling party uses religious and educational discrimination to divide the populace. In recent developments, tensions have localized in Ayodhya, where BJP legislators challenged Yadav to contest on the ground rather than making bold claims. Yadav responded by alleging ‘vote theft’ conspiracies by the BJP and asserting that a single ‘PDA Prahari’ would be sufficient to defeat the ruling party. Further friction has emerged through personal and electoral accusations. Om Prakash Rajbhar challenged Yadav to nominate a Muslim candidate for Chief Minister in 2027, while former MLA Sangeet Som accused Yadav of conspiring against his life—a claim the SP dismissed as politically motivated. Additionally, Yadav sparked controversy by claiming “most infiltrators in UP are from Uttarakhand,” drawing condemnation from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Congress leaders.
